TruDefender FTX/FTXi

Unique mobile Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectrometer. For this spectrometer, Ahura Scientific has also leveraged its extensive experience in miniaturizing optoelectronic devices and in the design of high-endurance mechano-optical devices. It is incredible how small a full-size FT-IR spectrometer with a resolution of 4 cm-1 and a range from 650 to 4000 cm-1 has been able to fit into such a small footprint. The spectrometer is equipped with a special detector and a solid-state laser with an extremely long lifetime and an integrated diamond ATR.
All components of the spectrometer, including the laser, are manufactured by Ahura Scientific. A major advantage of the spectrometer is the very fast ramp-up time, unlike standard FT-IR spectrometers, the spectrometer does not need any preheating time. With a diamond ATR and a special fixture to reproducibly press the sample against the ATR, the spectrometer makes it easy to measure liquids, pastes, gels, films, powders and solid samples.

The spectrometer has an integrated powerful computing system and unique software that utilizes patented chemometric algorithms previously used in the FirstDefender Raman spectrometer. The spectrometer thus features greatly improved reliability of substance identification (minimizing false positive identifications), but especially the ability to automatically identify mixtures of up to four components! The automatic identification of substances is a very important capability, as mixtures of substances are often found in real-life applications. It is difficult to imagine a spectrometer operator working in the field and wearing a protective suit examining spectral libraries and performing manual subtractions to try to identify a mixture of substances (even assuming that the operator is an expert in working with infrared spectra and spectral libraries). Apart from its uniquely small size, it is the only mobile FT-IR spectrometer that meets the requirements of the MIL 810F military standard (waterproof, dustproof, shockproof, allows complete decontamination, tolerates thermal shocks, ...).
Immediately after its launch in 2008, the spectrometer won several important awards such as the Cygnus Innovation Award for the best product in the field of HAZMAT and WMD or the Frost & Sullivan - Product of the Year 2008 in the field of chemical identification.
The TruDefender FTXi spectrometer is also equipped with mobile connectivity.
